Kentucky Basketball: Still The One – Number 1 That Is…

Rivals.com, one of the premier college basketball recruiting sites on the web, posted their top recruiting classes of 2011 and as expected, the Cats stay at the top spot.

Gilchrist, Teague, Kiltjer and Davis, four names, all in the Top 25, all verbally committed to Kentucky for 2011.

Coach Calipari has quickly become the Godfather of College Basketball Recruiting. To compile a Number 1 recruiting class three or four times in a ten year period is as rare as fat free food at McDonalds.

But for Calipari, and Kentucky, it’s becoming an addiction. For two years, make that two consecutive years, the Cats have not only had the number 1 recruiting class, but ran away in the rankings.

The latest ranking continues the Calipari trend. Rivals keeps the Cats at Number 1, ahead of a Duke class that climbed the ladder with the verbal commitment of Rivals top player, Austin Rivers.

Of additional interest, Kentucky’s very own John Pelphrey’s Arkansas Razorbacks moved up to the number 4 overall position while UK’s Travis Ford’s Oklahoma State Cowboys cracks into the Top 10 at number 10. Great news for both Coach’s but especially for Coach Pelphrey as he’s been taking some heat of late in Arkansas.

Here’s the Top 10 along with the number of verbal commits:

Kentucky (4)

Duke (3)

North Carolina (2)

Arkansas (5)

St John’s (5)

Syracuse (3)

Louisville (5)

Arizona (3)

Illinois (4)

Oklahoma State (2)
The news to watch is who, if anyone, will Coach Calipari add as the fifth and most likely, final recruit for the 2011 class?

Some names to keep an eye on are Myck Kabongo (UNC, Duke, Syracuse and UK), DeAndre Daniels (Florida appears to be the frontrunner for now) and Trevor Lacey (Could wait until Late Spring to decide).

Lacey is the only one of the three with a current offer from UK and appears to be the front runner, but with Coach C at the helm, you never know how things will end.

Here’s the latest video from future Wildcat Point Guard Marquis Teague. Imagine, and it’s very possible, a back court of Knight, Teague and Lamb. WOW!!!
