I debated on whether I should even post this article and give Kent Sterling the satisfaction of receiving one click from Nation of Blue. Then I realized that any traffic coming from NofB would probably be “hostile” traffic. That was enough for me…..
His website clearly shows that his articles are based on his opinion. Mr. Sterling is entitled to his opinion, but that also means I’m entitled to mine. So here we go…
Many UK fans know Kent Sterling as someone that definitely has an anti-Kentucky bias. He continues to promote his ignorance in his latest piece about John Calipari and the situation that surrounds Enes Kanter.
Kent Sterling is clearly “chasing the clicks”!
Just read the following excerpts and decide for yourself…
My opinion of Calipari runs deep into the earth’s bedrock. He uses the skills of kids to feather his own nest to the tune of $4-million per year, but it’s that blind ambition that has allowed him to separate from the rest of America’s college coaches. While others sweat the development of kids as people and players, Calipari is recruiting one-and-done kids with as much interest in an education and degree as they have in becoming neurologists.
Enes Kanter is a kid that 346 D-1 coaches knew was a professional and would never play one minute of college basketball. The 347th is John Calipari.
Mr. Sterling, let me get this straight… You’re faulting John Calipari for recruiting the best players in the country, in an attempt to win basketball games? If that’s not his job, then what is? Win basketball games.. That’s what he’s paid to do. That’s what he’s accomplished and that’s why he get’s paid what he does. It’s how it works all across America.
I’ll make the assumption that you’re someone that believes in socialism. Why don’t you just write an article on the redistribution of wins in College Basketball. In fact, why don’t we just turn it into T-Ball and not even keep score. In fact, we can also address the outrageous prices at the concession stand by asking UK to put out a “snack schedule” at the beginning of the season.
Everyone knows there’s big money in college basketball. This is not news…
Now for another excerpt of crap (make sure you wash your hands after you read this)….
He has no such need, desire, or impulse to present his starters as anything more than kids doing their time in college until they are eligible for the draft. Kanter as a pro from Turkey might wind up being taken in the middle of the first round, but after playing on national TV 35 times this season for the Wildcats and becoming a marquee player at a top program, he might elevate his stock into the top five. For Kentucky, they would get a year from a game changing player.
There is something oddly admirable about a guy who is unapologetic in using the inherantly corrupt system to build a hugely successful career. Calipari occasionally talks about grades, but he knows he’s full of ****. Reportedly, some basketball players sit at the study table while “tutors” complete their work (that comes directly from a member of the Kentucky women’s tennis team). There are wonderful professors at Kentucky who work hard to help students learn – none of them are paid more than a tiny fraction of Calipari’s salary.
There is nothing wrong with that. The guys and ladies who sit in the overstuffed leather chairs and jackets with elbow patches in Lexington made the decision that winning is most important to them, so they paid top dollar for a guy best suited to produce those results, and that is exactly what he’s doing. Kanter would have helped, so Calipari rolled the dice. He crapped out, but is now appealing the decision.

Again, are you really that ignorant?
You’re going after Calipari for being on TV? You do understand that TV is all about the $$$$. That means, if no one is watching, they’re not going to show it.
Fans love watching Kentucky Basketball! Because of that, we have one of the most prestigious and marketable programs in the country.
Also, UK’s basketball and football programs pay for the other athletic programs at the university. That means the work of John Calipar is paying for the training and development (athletically and personally) of young people across Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, Track, etc..
How many people will your professor impact?
I’m not saying that the professor’s work is not important, but it’s America Mr. [STRIKE]Stalin[/STRIKE] Sterling. Everyone earns whatever the market is willing to pay.
As Ice-T said, “Don’t Hate The Playa/Playette Hate The Game”.
Now for your accusation that tutors are doing the work of basketball players.
Are you serious? I’m not condoning that this type of behavior is acceptable, but do you really think UK basketball players are the only players in the country with tutors?
WOW! Way to break a story wide open..
I’m sure the NCAA will open investigations into universities all over the country for their illegal us of tutors. UK and other universities will probably write you a letter to personally thank you for bringing this issue to their attention. After all, the use of tutors and cheating in school is something that’s only been around a few hundred years or so.
In fact, I bet it’s part of a grand conspiracy that starts with the TV Networks. CBS probably pays the tutors to help the players so they’ll have a better product to show on game day!
You’re brilliant Mr. Sterling. Just brilliant! Your undeniable talent for stating the obvious and acting like an ass was also demonstrated by Shooter McGavin…..
Congrats on the article Shooter!
