The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football program wrapped up its 2014 season on Saturday with a big win over Bluefield College 63-28. The Patriots finished the season 3-7 and 2-4 in Mid-South Conference play. Numerous Patriots had standout performances in the win, but one went above and beyond with his play and for his efforts was recognized by the MSC today.
Junior running back Hunter Lewis (Dunlap, TN) was named the MSC Offensive Player of the Week, officials announced on Monday. It is the first award of the season for Lewis as well as the first of his career.
Lewis totaled 301 all-purpose yards and scored five times in the Patriots win over the Rams. Hunter rushed the ball 32 times on Saturday for a season and career high 254 yards and 4 touchdowns, also a career high. He added 47 yards on 2 receptions as well, including grabbing a touchdown pass, giving him 5 scores in the contest. The 254 rushing yards is the 2nd highest total of the season in the MSC.
Lewis finished the season with 67 carries for 397 yards and 4 TDs. His 5.9 yards per carry average was the 2nd highest on the team for anyone with 50+ carries on the season. He also caught 10 passes for 180 yards and 2 TDs.
