Trevor Lacey is one of two recruits still on Kentucky’s list of 2011 possibles. The other, the No. 9 player in the class, DeAndre Daniels.
Recently it was reported that Kentucky officially offered Trevor Lacey a scholarship for the 2011 season, and why not. Trevor is only averaging 42.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest. Three times Lacey has topped the 50 point mark, including a 54 point outing against West Limestone (Ala) and a 51 point, 17 rebound effort against Homewood (Ala) on December 17.

On Monday, Coach Calipari was in Huntsville to watch the 7th ranked shooting guard practice. Calipari couldn’t talk with Lacey directly, but he got an ear full from Lacey’s Head Coach, Jack Doss.
Doss had a bold prediction for Coach Calipari, one that would draw the attention of any member of the Big Blue Nation. That prediction, “I told coach Cal whoever gets him, he will lead them to a national championship.”
Doss, a veteran coach, admits Lacey is unusually gifted. Improvement is what he’s all about. After only averaging 22.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in a season limited by a knee injury, his start to the 2010-11 season has raised the eyebrows of all of those on the recruiting trail.
Currently Lacey has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Connecticut and Kansas, in addition to Kentucky. Lacey says both UCLA and Marquette have tried to get involved, but his final five remains set.
“I didn’t get to talk to coach Calipari. He was just here to evaluate me,” Lacey said. “He just wanted to show his presence and make sure I know he’s still interested in me. I am just waiting to see what happens with my recruiting.
“I have watched Kentucky this year. I really like the way they play. They have really good chemistry that I like. I will set up an official visit. I just haven’t been able to do it yet because of our schedule.”
Lacey’s not expecting to pick a school until April. Between now and then, Kentucky’s roster could change again with a possible commitment of DeAndre Daniels. If Calipari is only going to pick up one additional recruit for the 2011 season, my pick is Trevor Lacey.
Calipari’s pick, well John knows best, so in John I trust.
Until next time, Go Cats!!!
