In a game where Terrence Jones did not play up to his skill level or expectations, senior Josh Harrellson made his last game against rival Louisville count.
Harrellson finished the game with 23 points and 14 rebounds, leading the Wildcats to a 78-63 win over Louisville.
The 6’10” senior produced more than anyone expected in the game, and if it was not for him, the results would have been a different story.
Harrellson was on fire, hitting everything, whether it be little turnarounds, dunks, or even a long-range three pointer to help seal the game off early, Josh set the tempo for the Kentucky offense.
Like I said previously, Jones failed to produce like normal, but he still contributed in a different way: 12 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, along with three blocks were huge for John Calipari’s squad.
On a day where Jones could not score and opposing double-teams blanketed him, he did a fantastic job of playing the role as a passer and getting others open.
DeAndre Liggins also produced in a pivotal role for Calipari.
The stud defender solidified his spot as the top on-ball defender on the totem pole. He switched back and forth between the Cardinals that were giving Kentucky the most.
However, his biggest adjustment was when he started to guard Preston Knowles in the second half.
Knowles did his best to get Louisville back into the game with his 22 points, but he could not deliver in the end.
Free throws also proved to be a fine point for the ‘Cats (and a weak one for the Cards).
Louisville shot 5-11 from the line, whereas Kentucky converted 14 of its 16 attempts.
Down the stretch, Brandon Knight was automatic.
He stepped to the line each time and got the job done when Calipari needed the game put away.
Knight finished with a game-high 25 points.
In a day where it all came together for Kentucky, fans will have some great stuff to talk about until the next time out.
However, the biggest story has to belong to the career-game for senior Josh Harrellson.
Way to go out nicely in this hallowed rivalry.
