NCAA Rules Enes Kanter Permanently Ineligble

The NCAA has upheld their initial findings that Kentucky”s Enes Kanter is permanently ineligible to play basketball at the University of Kentucky.

I don’t know if this came as a surprise to anyone, especially after information came out that this was his final appeal, indicating that apparently the additional information provided returned the same decision as the initial information.

Here is a brief excerpt from the NCAA.
University of Kentucky men’s basketball student-athlete Enes Kanter has been ruled permanently ineligible for receiving impermissible compensation from a professional team.

The NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee has upheld the NCAA staff decision that Kanter received $33,033 above his actual and necessary expenses for one year while playing for a club basketball team in Turkey.

The reinstatement committee is the final appeal opportunity.

As a result of the ruling, Kanter will not be allowed to compete, practice or travel with the team as a player, but is able to receive financial aid to continue his education at Kentucky. The university has indicated it plans to designate Kanter as an undergraduate student-assistant coach. In this capacity, Kanter could perform limited coaching duties with the team.
For Enes, this has to be a crushing decision. I don’t know if he, I or the Big Blue Nation will ever understand the final ruling, especially with recent rulings on other high profile college athletes.

So there you have it Big Blue Nation. FREE ENES comes to an end. The good news, if there is any, is Kanter will continue to work with the team in an undergraduate student-assistant coaching role.

Will the Kanter’s sue the NCAA? That is yet to be determined. But for now, we can only imagine what the big man would have accomplished on the court.

More to come as this story unfolds.
