Cats Take It On The Chin In SEC Opener

In a road game that most thought would be tough, Kentucky came up short losing to Georgia 77-70. The Bulldogs was fueled by 25 points and 7 rebounds from Trey Thompkins.

Georgia set the early tone by jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead and never looked back in the first half, as they led from start to finish. Kentucky grabbed the lead at the 10:06 mark as Terrence Jones converted from the line, but that lead was short lived as Georgia regained the lead on a contested 3-pointer from Dustin Ware.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Kentucky (12-3, 0-1 SEC) never regained the lead as Georgia (12-2, 1-0 SEC) went on a 22-15 run to close out the game, winning their ninth in a row and capping off an early season upset of the 10th ranked team in the country.

The Cats weakness was exposed again today as Kentucky battled foul trouble throughout the game, eventually losing DeAndre Liggins to fouls late in the second half.

Jones set for the last 6:32 of the first half. A period where Georgia took advantage as they closed the half on a 13-4 run, taking a 11 point lead into the half.

The plan of six to seven deep is one of the few weaknesses for the Cats. With no real bench, outside of Doron Lamb, Kentucky cannot afford foul problems, an area we should expect Kentucky to improve in with maturity.

Terrence Jones led the Cats with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Lamb pitched in 18, Knight had 10 with 3 assist and Josh Harrellson ended with 4 points and 11 boards.

The Wildcats were out rebounded 37 – 34. Stat of the game was the number of shots taken, Kentucky had 71 shots compared to only 49 for Georgia, but could only manage 38.0% from the field and 30.0% from behind the arc.

For now, the Cats will travel back to Lexington and begin the process of getting prepared for the Auburn Tigers. The Cats and Tigers play this Tuesday. Tip time is around 7:00 PM and will be televised on ESPNU.

Go Cats!!!
