1. Somebody Played Angry: Matthew Mitchell and his Kentucky Wildcats took on the Auburn Tigers tonight in front of 6,003 Big Blue fans. The score was indicative of the game as the Cats crushed Auburn 69-38 behind a career and game high 13 points from Brittany Henderson. “Defensively, the intensity was the best from the opening tip to the final horn,” said Coach Mitchell. “Our group impressed me tonight. They played hard from the opening tip [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] to the final horn. And I was really, really pleased with that. I really appreciate that effort tonight and I’m excited for them that they were able to get rewarded with a very important win that we needed. And they were able to get it in an impressive fashion.”
Up next for UK Hoops, SEC leading Tennessee this Monday at Memorial Coliseum. Tip time is 9:00 p.m. and I would expect this one to be sold out. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Go Cats!!
2. The Waiting Is Over: In shocking news, DeAndre Daniels finally made a decision. About a month ago, word came out that Daniels was looking to forgo his Spring Semester at IMG Academy and enroll immediately at the University of his choice. The three immediate front runners were Texas, Kansas and Kentucky. Word surfaced that Kentucky had withdrawn their offer but that rumor could never be 100% confirmed. All speculation was that he was going to end up at Kansas. Reality is, he’s staying exactly where he’s at, IMG Academy, and will attend the university of his choice next Fall.
I have to say it, this story is wearing me out…
3. Former Wildcat Caught Stealing: For Rajon Rondo, functioning basketball courts in his hometown of Louisville is important. Now he has a chance to help the city of Boston by helping to refurbish some of the city’s courts. Rondo has teamed up with Red Bull in a program called “Boston’s Got Wings.” Red Bull has agreed to contribute $500 for every Rondo steal during the 2010-11 season. To date, Rondo has 91 steals and has already assisted in raising enough funds to refurbish Malcolm X Park in Roxbury and Smith Playground in the Allston/Brighton neighborhood.
4. Future Gridiron Guys Get A B-: The 2011 football national signing day is over. Yesterday, I was feeling what I thought was pain. Today, ESPN gave me a shot of temporary pain killer when they announced their final rankings of the 2011 classes. Overall ESPN gave Joker and team a B-, ranking the program as having the 26th best overall class and the 10th best in the SEC, right above Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.
5. Magic 8 Ball: Sports Illustrated’s Luke Winn, has listed his “Magic Eight” teams. Those teams consist of BYU, Kentucky, Duke, Georgetown, Ohio State, Texas, Tennessee and Washington. Winn says that the 2011 NCAA National Champion will come from this list of 8 schools. Personally, I might have picked a couple of different schools, but I believe Winn’s got a great chance of picking the winner.
