Will Trevor Lacey Leave Home?

Trevor Lacey is probably the hottest recruit left in the nation and Alabama, Auburn, UConn, and Kentucky are hot on the trail of the 6’3″ scoring machine.

Trevor has a tough choice coming this Spring and it is whether to stay home or join four McDonald’s All Americans at Kentucky.

Trevor visited Alabama this past weekend and there are rumors he is going to visit Auburn this weekend. I am waiting on confirmation from Trevor if that is going to happen.

I have also spoke to Trevor about a possible Kentucky visit and he is targeting the South Carolina on Feb. 19th. Trevor told me he would let me know as soon as he set his date to travel to Lexington.

What really goes into a choice for a top Alabama recruit? Kevin Scarbinsky of the Birmingham News looks at past Alabama recruits and compares them to Trevor’s decision.

Lacey could be the next Eric Bledsoe, who left this state for Kentucky, except Lacey’s a more explosive scorer and better all-around player. Four Kentucky signees were just named to the McDonald’s All-American rosters.

Or Lacey could be the next Stanley Robinson, who left this state for UConn, except Robinson was a forward, not a guard.

Like Robinson, Lacey has been named Mr. Basketball in Alabama. Lacey’s uncle, Howard Pride, his father’s brother, won that award in 1993. Lacey became just the second junior to earn that honor last year, after Ronald Steele, and he could join Steele this year as the only two-time winners.

Will he also follow Steele’s path to Alabama?

“Sometimes he says he wants to leave the state,” William Pride said. “Sometimes he says he wants to stay in-state. That’s a decision he has to make.”

If he signs with Alabama, Lacey will sink the already wobbly notion that Grant hasn’t made enough contacts yet to recruit effectively at home. Lacey would be Alabama’s biggest in-state “get” since … who? Richard Hendrix? Steele? Gerald Wallace?

If Lacey signs with Auburn, he would become the signature signee for Tony Barbee. He also would be Auburn’s biggest in-state “get” since … who? Doc Robinson? Wesley or Chuck Person? Charles Barkley?

I know a lot of Kentucky fans have fell in love with Trevor’s scoring ability, saying he could be the next Jodie Meeks at Kentucky. If you follow twitter, Kentucky fans aren’t the only ones who are in love with Trevor.

The entire state of Alabama is in dire need of a player with Lacey’s ability and scoring prowess. Can Cal steal a schoolboy legend from his home state?

If anyone can, it is Coach John Calipari.
