Video: D.J. Eliot and Neal Brown post-scrimmage

Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach D.J. Eliot and Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach Neal Brown discussed Saturday’s scrimmage with the media.

Eliot:

    • Still working to develop depth and continue to improve.
    • Defense plays faster, communicates better, executes more.
    • Freshman class very talented, still growing- understanding schemes and fundamentals.

Brown:

  • Threw ball a lot during scrimmage to see where we are with quarterbacks, receivers.
  •  Offense working on improving on third downs, being able to protect, throw and catch.
  • Guys need to get away from football a little, not think about it for an evening.
  • Wants to see how quarterback is managing tempo, making decisions, accuracy.
  • Concentrated on Williams and Horton. Thought Mikel had one of his best days, ran solid.
  • Notices significant improvement since spring.
  • Borden, Shields had touchdown catches in scrimmage.
  • Passing game needs to get better due to splitting qb reps, wide receivers unable to practice.
  • Need to get healthy.
  • Will concentrate on passing for next 5-7 days.
