I hated to hear the news of Unforgettable, John Pelphrey, being fired as the head coach of Arkasas over the weekend. But what’s followed is a tangled web of former UK Coaches possible fighting for his now vacant position.

This was reported today by the Star-Telegram..

Billy Gillispie has had conversations with officials at Texas Tech concerning him replacing Pat Knight as basketball coach; but the job has not yet been offered to him, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Gillispie has also had informal contact about the jobs at Arkansas and just-opened Oklahoma. The source said, however, that Arkansas has already had face-to-face contact with and is close to hiring Minnesota coach Tubby Smith.

Tubby Smith to Arkansas?! I actually think he would have more success in the SEC, and Pelphrey’s recruiting class for next year certainly wouldn’t hurt.
From what I can remember, Tubby does a great job stepping in when he already has the talent 😉
It really looks like Gillispie will land at Texas Tech. Getting back to his roots (recruiting, etc) should pay off immediately.
