John Pelphrey Disagrees with Arkansas’ Decision to Fire Him

John Pelphrey is not happy with the University of Arkansas’ decision to let him go. Here is an excerpt of Pelphrey’s parting words:

While saying, “I do not agree with the decision made yesterday,” Pelphrey exited Monday expressing nothing but good things about Arkansas, including those who hired him, former Arkansas athletics director Frank Broyles and former Arkansas Chancellor John White, and those who fired him, Long and Chancellor David Gearhart, and all for whom he worked and worked for him and those he coached during his four Arkansas seasons and the five recruits he signed for next season.

Pelphrey was fired with Walton Arena attendance dwindling to an average less than half full of its once sold out 19,000-plus seats and successive SEC records of 2-14, 7-9, 7-9 and three straight first-round SEC Tournament exits without advancing to NCAA Tournament or even NIT postseason play.

After a 23-12/9-7 SEC debut 2007-2008 season that included Arkansas’ first NCAA Tournament first-round victory since 1999, Pelphrey’s Hogs overall were 14-16, 14-18 and 18-13.
“Four years ago, when I came here I said that this was a dream job,” Pelphrey said. “I meant that then and I still do. My love and affection for this state, the people, this university, and that logo (the Hog) — it has stolen my heart. I will always be a Razorback.”
