Some Kentucky fans love him while others would rather put their TV on mute during games he commentates. Dick Vitale isn’t known by all Kentucky fans as an announcer that love the Wildcats. Every now and then, Vitale surprises and has some good things to say to Big Blue Nation. Yesterday was one of those days.
After the Wildcats defeated Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers, Vitale said he thinks Kentucky is playing the best ball in the NCAA.
While some people wondered what was wrong with Big Blue, Calipari wanted to make sure his team got better and better. I think the results speak for themselves. The Wildcats won the SEC tournament championship, scoring an impressive win over Florida in the finals.
Now Kentucky has won twice in the big dance, moving on to the Sweet 16. Both Ws, over Princeton and West Virginia, did not come easily. As my old buddy Jim Valvano used to say, “Survive and Advance.”
Kentucky is working on an 8 game winning streak after shutting down West Virginia in the second half yesterday. But if they plan to advance to the Elite Eight, they’ll need to continue to play great ball. Kentucky will face the winner of the Ohio State-George Mason game that will be played later today.
Now the Wildcats have a potential matchup against top-seed Ohio State in the Sweet 16 if the Buckeyes get past George Mason. My friends, Ohio State-Kentucky would be like a Final Four showdown, it has that much luster and intensity. If that happens, I cannot wait to watch that one!
I’ll be looking forward to it too Dickie V.!
