I was able to get in touch with 2012 SG Gary Harris out of Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, IN) via his mother, Joy – who has an interesting basketball background herself.
Todd Kirby: Which schools are currently on your list and who has offered a scholarship?
Gary Harris: I have scholarship offers from Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Louisville, Michigan State, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio State to name a few.
TK: Who is on your MP3 player right now?
GH: Wiz Khalifa
TK: What’s your favorite shoe to play in?
GH: Nike
TK: What do you do when you’re not playing ball?
GH: Hang out with friends and family, watch movies & play video games
TK: How did you first get started playing basketball (and at what age)?
GH: I started playing basketball around age 5. I’ve always been around basketball, my mother played in the ABL & WNBA (editor’s note: his mother would be Joy Holmes-Harris, who played for the Seattle Reign, Nashville Noise and Detroit Shock).

TK: You wear #40, what is the significance of that number?
GH: I wear # 40 because mom wore that same number in High School and college (editor’s note: she wore it in the pros as well – see photo).
TK: What’s your favorite fast food?
GH: Qdoba chicken fajita burrito with extra meat & extra veggies
TK: What is the best part of your game, and what is something you are still working to improve on?
GH: Best part of my game is getting to the basket. I’m working and trying to improve on everything.
TK: I see from your schedule that you played Pike HS in February, how do you match up against Kentucky commit Marquis Teague (and could you play alongside him at the next level)?
GH: Me and Teague matched up pretty good, he’s gotta be one of the quickest players I’ve played against.
TK: When you get to the NBA and start making millions of dollars, what’s the first thing you’re going to buy?
(Joy Harris): He’s going to buy his mother a new house (laughs).
Kentucky has not offered a scholarship at this time, but they said that if Kentucky were to offer, Gary would definitely be interested.
