One of the detriments to (or benefits of, depending on your views) the NCAA rule regarding recruits being unable to sign a letter of intent until their senior year is that… sometimes they de-commit.
Such was the concern when recruiting coach Tim Fuller left Louisville for Missouri earlier this month. The first domino has fallen, with the de-commitment of 4-star 2012 wing man Negus Webster-Chan. Chan had said his commitment was solid in an interview on April 13th, then de-committed six days later.
Now 5-star 2012 guard Rodney Purvis’ commitment has come into question. Purvis reaffirmed his commitment when the news about Fuller’s transfer came out as well. But according to Jerry Meyer over at Rivals, he’s not sounding too confident right now. The Louisville-commit released a vague statement on the 15th regarding his recruitment which Meyer rightfully valuated as “Purvis didn’t decommit from Louisville, but he didn’t exactly reaffirm his commitment to Louisville either.”
Would Kentucky go after Purvis if he de-committed? I would think not. UK is already heavily involved with 5-star guards Archie Goodwin, Gary Harris, L.J. Rose, and Kyle Anderson from that class. But you never know, it is UK and stranger things have happened.
