Brandon Knight’s Draft Status

First we were hearing how Brandon Knight could move ahead of Kyrie Irving in the draft, and how Jimmer “my-name-is-now-a-verb” Fredette was trying to prove he could hang with guards like Knight and UConn’s Kemba Walker. Now it seems that the Knight’s status may be slipping with at least one team.

Both CBSsports and Sports Illustrated are reporting that Fredette’s camp has issued a challenge to work out 1-on-1 with both Kemba Walker and Brandon Knight to improve his status. Obviously Knight has nothing to gain and much to lose from this scenario. He is projected to go top 5 by pretty much everybody and can only hurt his status if he has an off day. Knight is evidently taking his time responding to the challenge and now the Utah Jazz are questioning whether or not he’s going to comply.

Could it cause the Jazz to not pick Knight at #3 overall in the draft? Sure. Would that be the end of the world for Knight? Hardly. Knight has earned the right to workout how he wants and for whomever he wants. He may go #7, he may go #1, but I don’t think it will ruin his day to not go #3. My favorite quote was from the CBS article:
Any team that passes on (Knight) because he is playing his hand wisely is nuts. But if they want to grumble because they can’t see more of him? Totally understandable.
