Gillispie one of Several D1 Coaches Associated with Investment Advisor

CBS reported last night about David Salinas, a Houston area investment advisor who committed suicide in the midst of a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) investigation. Salinas was also the head of a local summer basketball program, which may involve a conflict of interest for any D1 coaches who invested with him AND recruited any of of his players.

Among the coaches for sure invested were Lute Olson (formerly of Arizona), Scott Drew (Baylor), Billy Gillispie (Texas Tech) and Ray Giacoletti (Gonzaga assistant). CBS reports that ”…the list is much longer. Lots of coaches had money with him, but they’re going to try to deny it and just hope it doesn’t come out.”

Another coach confirmed ”We’re not concerned about the NCAA right now. We’re just scared we got Madoffed.” According to the report, millions of dollars are involved.
