USA Today’s Jason Jordan went back to talk to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s high school coach to find out what he was like as an upcoming star.
Unsurprisingly, MKG was a warrior and played with energy, heart and an unselfish mentality even as a young player.
Former Coach Kevin Boyle on his favorite off-the-court memory of Kidd-Gilchrist:
I remember Mike apologizing to me one time during his senior after he had a bad practice. He was playing lazy and he just wasn’t himself so he apologized to me and the whole team. I mean he’s this big star player on a team full of young guys and he’s walking around apologizing to them. And he’s being really genuine. He was really sorry. That’s just how he was.
Kidd-Gilchrist participated in his first full practice yesterday. MKG has been sidelined for weeks with a hand injury. He was fitted with a glove and the team hopes he can return to action as early as Tuesday.
