That #1 Spot: The Case against North Carolina

One of my biggest pet peeves is when one person says something outlandish and untrue but because they were the first to say anything on the subject, it is declared gospel. Jay Bilas had an off the cuff comment at the end of last year that stuck to the brainless wall of college sportswriters. He stated that North Carolina was going to be the “best team in 2012” with the NBA front court of Henson, Zeller, Barnes and Macadoo. And everyone just fell in the line, nodded their empty heads and said in brainwashed zombie monotone “Must agree with Jay Bilas, him always right”. Well I’m the dude in this zombie film that stand ups and kicks the zombie in the undead gonads. Jay, you’re usually right, but not this time, Dukie.

That frontcourt would be impressive, if you were in the lame ACC with deadbeat bigs that are a dime a dozen. You feel me? For instance, could there BE any more Plumlee’s? Right?

Compare the aforementioned tarheel front court with the likes of Terrence Jones, Anthony Davis, Mike Gillie-tha-Kidd and Darius Miller. I’ll take my chances with Kentucky for a couple of reasons. Henson may be able to block every shot within 6 feet of him and dunk like a freak, but he’s a foot taller than I, we weigh the same AND I am only considered “slightly obese” for my age and height. Zeller will eventually get drafted by the Pacers and will never be heard of again. Let’s stop pretending that he plays as big as his nose. Barnes is a man, enough said there. Lastly, Macadoo will be a frosh and Roy Williams despises rookies who are good at basketball. His impact will be minimal.

How does North Carolina have better guards than Kentucky? Kentucky has Doron Lamb returning, incoming freshman Marquis Teague, and Darius Miller is considered a guard/forward. Not a bad trio compared to the mediocre Kendall Marshall and talented PJ Harriston. Being a freshman though, Harrison will have 2 or 3 good games, but come conference play he will disappear. You know, I just noticed that Roy Williams recruits all these high level talents yet in the first year he has no idea what to do with them. He took Harrison Barnes, a preseason lock for the #1 overall draft pick, and turned him into Jared Carter. Barnes dug himself out of the cellar and ended up having a good year, but no thanks to daggum Roy.

How about the most obvious reason of all, UK beat North Carolina not 3 months ago and UK reloaded. North Carolina has the entire team of lameosaurus’ as they did last year. The same team that thought Kendall Marshall was the answer to all their problems. Having experience does help when wanting to make a tourney run, but when all your older veterans suck, what good does it do?

Don’t misunderstand, I don’t think Caroline is a terrible basketball team. They will be “big” and somewhat talented, but the best? That’s why they play the games and I talk the trash. I predict UK will beat UNC by double digits in Rupp this year in the biggest game in Lexington since..yadda yadda you get the point. I leave you with this video as it only begins to explain how bad North Carolina truly is at basketball lately and in my opinion, aint much changed.
