Robert Carter Confused by Commitment Discussions

During the Peach Jam AAU tournament down in Georgia a few days ago, there was a rampant rumor circulating that Thomasville (GA) power forward Robert Carter was going to commit during the tournament. And not only was he going to commit, but he was going to commit to John Calipari and Kentucky.

That commitment never materialized, and for the first time, Carter spoke about the rumor to Nationofblue.com during his impressive outing at the Orlando AAU 17u Super Showcase this past weekend.

“I’m just trying to get more athletic,” the 6-foot-9, 245-pound Carter said, of his good performances in Orlando. “I just want to show more.”

And show more he did. His Atlanta Express team counted on his inside play offensively, but even more impressive was his defensive effort. “I’m just trying to explode to the rim, and show my athleticism. I know a lot of coaches like that. I am very skilled, and I want them to see that.”

As for the rumored commitment, the Scout-rated number seven center in the class of 2012 was as confused as everyone else.

“No,” Carter said. “I don’t know how that even got up in the air. I wasn’t even going to narrow my schools down until the end of the summer. I won’t make my decision in the July period. Now, once I cut my list down, a decision could come after that, but I haven’t even taken a visit.”

But Kentucky is a player. “They are still right there. I talk to them as much as I talk to everyone else on my list. My coaches talk to them as much as I do. So they are still there.”

Carter was getting good competition from the teams he was facing every time he hit the court. “Yeah, they got me working a little bit down here. Seems like every team has somebody that wants to post me up a little. There are some good players in this tournament. But I make adjustments.”
