athlonsports.com singled out nine teams identified as having the potential to make huge strides in the coming weeks, including Kentucky.
Saturday’s win over rival Louisville was one of Kentucky’s most cohesive performances, highlighted by improvement in the backcourt. The Harrison twins combined for 21 points and James Young added six in the second half on the way to a 73-66 win over the Cards. The Wildcats also earned the first win against a ranked opponent this season, a team with more experience than the young All-Americans just a handful of games removed from high school.
David Fox on the Cats:
Saturday was the day Kentucky fans have been waiting for since the top signing class in college basketball history came together. The Wildcats beat Louisville 73-66 for their signature win of the season, but more important, they started to show what they can do when all the parts are playing together.
Coach John Calipari said of the effort:
Did we look more like a basketball team today? We looked like a basketball team. Here is what was on the board today: Look like a team. Play like a team. Fight like a team.
Whether the Cats have turned a pivotal corner or not only time will tell, but the talented Kentucky team rose to all three challenges, fighting through adversity in a super-charged rivalry game.
