Lafeyette Advances Past Scott Co. in Overtime

They say basketball is a game of runs and this one was no exception. Lafayette came out on fire, pulling out to a 15-0 lead over Scott County. The Cardinals didn’t score a basket until just over the 4 minute mark. Two quick fouls sent Jackson Davis to the bench while Scott Co.’s Trent Gilbert found his touch, leading to a 39-14 run before the half.

The Generals trailed by seven with just under a minute left in regulation, but a near half-court buzzer-beater by Harrison Lane sent the game into overtime. Lafayette used the momentum and went 9/12 from the line to wrap up the 91-86 win in the quarterfinals of the Republic Bank Classic.

“Mr. Double-Double” Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 34 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, four assists and three blocks. Harrison Lane and Lucky Jackson added 18 points each for the Generals.

Scott County’s star shooter Trent Gilbert recorded 44 points.Teddy Ware had 13 points. Raekwon Long added eight points and four rebounds. Tony Martini chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and five steals for the Cardinals.

No. 10 Lafayette advances to the semifinals to face No. 11 Newport Central Catholic at 6 p.m. at Lexington Catholic High School.
