I spoke with two of the best wings in the Class of 2012, Archie Goodwin and Shabazz Muhammad (well, his father). Both players really enjoyed their visits.
Here is what they had to say:
ARCHIE GOODWIN
“The fan base is crazy. The way the fans react to Coach Calipari are crazy. I love it.”
“In my opinion, every program should put players first. They put the ball in the goal and make the stops on defense; sure, they have great strategy, but when it comes down to it, the players make it happen.”
“I didn’t recruit any during the visit. I don’t feel like I should be involved in that. It is each player’s decision, and I don’t want to make the decision for them. They have to be close to the coach.”
“I saw two practices and they were great. The team really works hard, and Coach Cal doesn’t allow people to slack off. I love that.”
“I’m glad to be a part of a fan base so supportive.”
SHABAZZ MUHAMMAD
“Our visit was very informative. John Calipari explained to us how Shabazz would fit in to his program. We were very impressed.”
“For Shabazz, the fan support really stuck out. He said he signed his share of autographs because he was with John Wall a lot.”
“We were really intrigued by the practices. There was no wasted time and they really got up and down the floor. The dribble-drive concepts were broken down, and they were really intriguing.”
“Shabazz will be a springtime decision. We still have to see Duke, Arizona, and Kansas, and see more of UCLA, USC, and UNLV.”
“We may come back to Lexington for the UK-UNC game. We will have to pay our way, but it is a possibility.”
