Just think of these young people, who have learned to recognize that:
As servants, life is not about them but about those whom they serve;
As stewards, they don’t own anything—everything is on loan and they need to nurture and support what is given to them; and
As shepherds, every human being is important.These are life lessons, whether they stay in college one year, two years, or four years.
It appears Coach Cal’s former players took the message to heart. After signing multi-million dollar contracts, former Cats John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins each gave back to his community by donating one million dollars to charitable causes.
Today the Sacramento Kings held their annual Thanksgiving dinner where employees serve a meal to members of the local community. Cousins was on hand to join in the event as part of the Kings’ Season of Giving and the NBA Give Big holiday program. 30 NBA teams and all 17 NBA Development League (NBA D-League) teams will host charitable events throughout the holiday season.

In addition, Cousins was on hand at the launch of the Golden Ticket Toy Drive benefiting local children in need:
While Cousins’ actions are often misunderstood, Kentucky fans have never questioned his huge heart, especially for children. Coach Cal often refers to his players as his “sons.” It must be very gratifying for him to see DeMarcus following his example and leading with a servant’s heart.
