John Calipari said yesterday that Terrence Jones was the best player in the nation, and if he isn’t in that discussion after tonight then something is wrong.
Jones led all scorers with 52 points on 24-of-31 shooting, adding 16 rebounds and six assists as he led his Blue team to a 126-104 victory over the White team.
The 52 points is a record for the Blue White game, eclipsing Brandon Knight’s 37 from a year ago.
Calipari said about Terrence’s performance, “You know, you got 52 and 16 (rebounds) and six assists, two steals and a block. He was OK. I mean, what I tell you is, when I told you yesterday that he changed his habits, he changed his body conditioning wise, he changed his skill set, and he changed his approach towards practicing and conditioning, that’s why you see the change. It’s not like I’m going to do the same thing and I’m going to be a different player. You’re not, you’re going to be the same player.”
Anthony Davis also played well, especially for a freshman, as he tallied 27 points on 11-18 shooting.
Equally impressive was Kyle Wiltjer, as I am guessing the fans love his three point stroke, hitting 5 of 8 from behind the arc and finishing with 27 points of his own.
Cal was not too happy with the Blue/White game, as he said in his opening statement, “I bet you we’d be really good against the Washington Generals right now, doing the weave and all the other stuff. We’ve got to be a great defensive team and we’re not right now. Now, do you see why I don’t like playing zone? Played zone the last nine minutes. It was like… (shakes head)”
The game all in all showed the great athleticism of this team and I am pretty sure the 12, 134 fans in attendance enjoyed the show.
