DeMarcus: does he or doesn’t he?

In case you haven’t heard, DeMarcus Cousins has supposedly demanded a trade from the Sacramento Kings. Except he hasn’t. Either way, there seems to be something going on there. So much so that Cuz [STRIKE]didn’t even make the trip to New Orleans with the team today[/STRIKE] was told to stay home for tonight’s game against New Orleans.

Much has been made over the last couple years about DeMarcus’ behavior, and us Kentucky fans are often quick to dispute it. But if (keyword: IF) DeMarcus has demanded a trade a week into his second season, he deserves whatever criticism he gets.

And yes, we know he is a good guy. That doesn’t help him when he is also immature and quick-tempered. I know lots of good guys who come off as turds on a regular basis. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it makes him an easy target for criticism in a media world where only the negative garners attention. It’s something we as fans might as well accept.

Put it this way: it if was a rival alumnus, for instance Joakim Noah, who was doing this, we would be all over Twitter giving him down the road. Instead, it’s one of our own, and we must accept the fact that DeMarcus has some knucklehead in him.

So what if he hasn’t demanded a trade (which is entirely possible)? Then there is something going on in Sac-town we don’t know about. But here’s the thing to remember: the already questionable public perception of him means he won’t be getting the benefit of the doubt on this. Either way, it sounds like a fresh start may be in order for Cuz.

May I suggest a trade to the Wizards?

NOTE: As I was writing this, Twitter came alive with whisperings of the entire team being unhappy with coach Paul Westphal, and that he and Cousins had a verbal altercation in practice. Still, Cuz doesn’t have the right, at this point in his career, to demand a trade. Sack up, son.
