Basketball

I lied, apparently.

So, I was wrong, it seems, in saying Kentucky would play an outstanding game. I really need to quit drinking before breakfast.

But then again, I also said a couple weeks ago that Alabama would be the closest conference home game Kentucky has, so we’ll go with that for now.

It looked early on that Kentucky would pull away in a blowout, but Anthony Grant’s squad had other things in mind. It was a 2-point game with about 24 seconds left, but free throws and a well-timed block help set the final score as Kentucky wins, 77-71.

Terrence Jones…well….he’s had better first halves, let’s leave it at that. But, to his credit, he recovered nicely and finished with 15 and 6. It’s nice to see him put the rough start behind him, and is a sign of his ongoing maturity.

Doron Lamb also played a solid game, getting 14 points, 4 boards, and 2 assists. MKG had his usual quiet outing of 13 & 6, to go with 5 fouls. So far, the tendency to foul is the only thing that really slows him down.

Anthony Davis also came back to earth today. I say that, but he had a wonderful line of 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 blocks to go with 11 points. He shot only 2-11 from the field, however.

And then, we have Marquis Teague. Marquis Teague played 38 minutes, and if he had spent the entire game at Buffalo Wild Wings next to me, he would’ve had one less assist. How a starting point guard gets one assist in 38 minutes boggles the mind.

Aside from a solid six minutes out of Kyle Wiltjer, Kentucky used only six players the entire game.

On the red side of things, JaMychal Green showed Kentucky where the bear poops, laying down 22 points and 12 rebounds. Trevors Releford and Lacey managed 17 and 10, respectively. Alabama also shot 48% from the field, including 5-7 (71.4%) from downtown. They also out rebounded the Cats 32-30.

It wasn’t pretty, or efficient, but at the end of the day,it’s still a win. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go before I get thrown out of the men’s room of this tuxedo rental store.
