Even though the Wildcats came out of the gate with the “heebee-geebees” they managed to cook up some fried Gator with a 78-58 win over Florida in Rupp Arena. This game was built up as a big match-up touting the guard driven Florida Gators versus the lengthy Kentucky Wildcats. Unfortunately for the Kentucky naysayers, the Wildcats proved once again they deserve the number one ranking with a more than domination performance.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist once again brought a strong game with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 3 assists. He wasn’t the only strong player representing the blue tonight as Marquis Teague finished with a double double of 12 points and 10 assists, and Mr. Consistency himself Anthony Davis finished with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals.
Kenny Boynton was the leading scorer for the Gators with 18 points, but that is all fools gold. Once Kentucky built up the lead, the game essentially became a shoot out in the last ten minutes, with both teams matching shot for shot.
In the end, Kentucky wins their 4th game in a row by 20 points or more while extending their home winning streak to 49 games. Up next is the ever creepy Memorial Gym and the Vanderbuilt Commodores while they play host to ESPN’s College Gameday at 9pm Saturday. This is expected to be the Cat’s next big challenge and if they seal a victory here, watch out world!
Go.Cats.
