Tuesday Night Recruiting News: Leaders for Devonta Pollard?

Today has been a generally quiet day when it comes to Kentucky recruiting, but it looks like we may have a few smaller stories beginning to surface.

As many of you know, Syracuse big man Fab Melo was declared ineligible by the NCAA today, and more than likely, he will enter the 2012 NBA Draft. This could throw a wrench in the recruitment for Nerlens Noel.

It is still early to see whether or not Melo’s departure will have a massive impact on Noel, but many believe it could regenerate more interest for the Orange.

However, there is some other news on another 2012 recruit.

According to a close source, “Texas and Kentucky have the best chance” to land Kemper County (Miss.) star Devonta Pollard. Mississippi State is right in there as well.

“I think Texas will get him, though,” the source went on to say.

Pollard is expected to visit Kentucky in the near future.

This afternoon I also had the chance to swap texts with Briarcrest Christian (TN) big man Austin Nichols. The 6-foot-9 star informed me he picked up an offer from Louisville this week.

The Cards join Memphis, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Virginia, Florida, Texas, Butler, and Georgia, with interest from Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Marquette.

Nichols also feels like he could be landing another offer soon.

“Yes, I have heard from Kentucky recently,” he began. “The staff wants to see if Derek Willis and I can play together. If so, Coach [John] Calipari will offer.”

Our sources at NOB have told us about good things with Nichols as well.

Expect further news on all three players in the next few days.
