Many recruiting experts and fans have thought this for quite some time, but Troy Williams is officially down to Kentucky and North Carolina.
The 6-foot-6 forward removed the Georgetown Hoyas from his recruitment en route to narrowing his list down. In the end, John Thompson III and his program did not seem appealing to Williams.
“Georgetown was dropped because they didn’t play my style. They didn’t keep in touch as much as Kentucky and North Carolina,” the Phoebus (VA) product said by text Tuesday night.
It has been assumed these two schools would be the schools coming down the stretch for the junior, and he has some reasons to favor them.
“I like both schools’ playing styles and coaches. I also like how I get along with the players.
John Calipari took the time to personally call Williams last week. That could go a long way for the talented star.
“Coach [John] Calipari told me I would fit well in their program. He asked me if I was ready to work hard because that is what it is going to take to play at UK,” Williams explained. “He also said I have a high-motor like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, but he is bigger and stronger.
It sounds like Coach Cal is already attempting to replace a great talent like MKG. He may not have to wait too long, though. A decision is looming for Williams.
“I have no clue as far as a decision yet, but I know it will be between now and May.”
Expect Kentucky to be in Minneapolis to see Williams play this weekend in the opening session of the Nike EYBL schedule.
