UPDATE: As everybody knows by now, Jefferson chose Duke. But my question in the last paragraph still stands…
OK, straight up, nobody, with the exception of Amile Jefferson and his family, knows what Jefferson will announce today when he lets the world know where he’s going to play college basketball. Read four different articles and get four different opinions. ESPN’s Dave Telep believes that only two teams are still in the running: Duke and North Carolina State, but there are no reasons to believe that Telep’s psychic powers are any more pronounced than yours. Telep says that he thinks Kentucky has been eliminated from the chase because Jefferson’s father did not come with him to Lexington for his official visit.
Be that as it may, Jefferson’s press conference is slated for 4pm today at his Philadelphia high school.
Kentucky’s recruiting class is solid, but we’ve heard a few rumblings out there that since Anthony Bennett is going to UNLV and Shabazz Muhammad is going to UCLA that the luster is not what it should be. Reminds me of listening to a radio call in three days after the Cats won the 1998 National Championship and hearing a caller complain about losing the Mississippi State game a few weeks earlier. In any event, let’s assume for the sake of discussion that Jefferson chooses Duke, NC State or Villanova. How does that change your opinion of John Calipari’s recruiting efforts this year?
