D’Angelo Russell Talks About Visit to UK

Recently, the Kentucky basketball staff has shown more interest in Kentucky-area kids, whether it is Derek Willis or even Shane Hall. However, arguably the most talented kid in the state is beginning to rise to the top.

D’Angelo Russell, a native of Louisville, spent the past year at Montverde Prep in Florida. Monday the rising junior was in Lexington to visit the Kentucky campus.

“The visit was really nice. The coaching staff really caught my attention,” Russell said via text Monday afternoon. “Especially Kenny Payne.”

Payne has served as the primary recruiter for Russell to this point.

The visit was mostly set up with tours of campus and speaking with the coaches, something the 2014 star said he really enjoyed.

When asked about the new Wildcat Lodge for the players, Russell responded with the following:

“The place was clean and everyone had a room to themselves. It was nice!”

Despite being recruited by Coach Payne, Russell also spoke with John Calipari for a good bit.

“Coach [John] Calipari and I sat and talked for a good 20 minutes,” he explained. “He just talked to me about his plans and how Kentucky isn’t for everyone.”

In addition to Kentucky, Russell also lists Louisville, Ohio State, Missouri, and Cincinnati, among others.

“Overall, it was a good visit.”
