It was a great night for the futures of Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Marquis Teague, Doron Lamb, and Darius Miller.
I am sure the entire BBN loves that all 6 were selected in the NBA Draft, but they will be missed even though 5 of them were in Lexington for a short period of time.
Nation of Blue fan Jenna Pauley emailed me the following article, and I feel it is spot on how many Kentucky fans feel about losing such a wonderful group of fine young men.
Last night was a bittersweet moment for a lot of people.
We witnessed the lives of our beloved six players change and now we know where they will begin their NBA careers. It was like watching our family go away, but on an exciting journey and we will no doubt be watching them for years to come.
Anthony Davis has been a blast to watch and who would have thought at the beginning of the season that he would break shot blocking records and pick up nearly every award offered. Seeing him go as the number one pick was expected but still very exciting. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has an unbelievable motor, so much heart and took on a leadership role early on. After watching the experts predict him much farther down in the draft it was beyond thrilling to see him get that number two spot. Terrence Jones came back and gave his all for that ring and it paid off for him as well as the team. Marquis Teague delivered when it counted after so many, including myself, thought he didn’t have it in him. Doron Lamb also gave us an additional year and was very instrumental in our success. It would take an entire page to say all the good things about Darius Miller in his four years and it’s awesome that he will be with Anthony in New Orleans. The draft was another shining moment for this team with all six names being called.
The whole team showed that maturity and unbelievable teamwork are what it takes to bring the championship home to the Bluegrass where it belongs. They were truly a dream team that played the way Cal taught them and by their unselfish teamwork they reached their goals as well as making the entire Nation of Blue ridiculously happy fans.
So now we say goodbye to this amazing team of young men and get ready to focus on the upcoming season. From all accounts this years class is impressive as well. We are passionate about our basketball and our “absolutely crazy fans” will be behind them 100% all the way!
To the cities that are welcoming our cherished Wildcats, take good care of our boys.
Thanks for the memories guys – it’s been a great ride.
