Coach Cal In Katz’ Korner

If you missed Coach Calipari on ESPNU’s Katz Korner last night, ESPN now has a video link up of the interview. (ESPN also wants your pageviews, so you’ll have to click over to the video.) I thought the following comments by Coach Cal were the most interesting:

* Ryan Harrow is a “very good player” according to Calipari. One thing you can count on: Coach Cal paying attention to the fanbase laments and addressing them subtly.

* Calipari has (figuratively, I assume) told Willie Cauley-Stein: “You don’t know how good you’re gonna be. You had no idea; you’ve never worked at this.” Cal says that he may play Cauley-Stein and Nerlens Noel at the same time because they play bigger than their actual heights — “I may have to play a 7-footer and a 6′ 11″ player together!”

* Nerlens Noel blocks shots with both hands (whereas Davis blocked with just one). But Calipari doesn’t want Noel to be compared to Davis. Calipari wants each player to, “be you, and be a better version of you.”

If listening to Rick Pitino talk positively about John Calipari is exciting for you, you’ll be sorely disappointed that Pitino’s segment on Katz’ Korner doesn’t feature it.

Full Disclosure: Fake Gimel might be a little too eager to link Andy Katz because Andy mispronounced Fake Gimel’s name on TV one time.
