Top 50 Players in UK History: Who Didn’t Make It?

With the Top 50 Players in UK History Fan Poll reveal coming to a close, only ten spots remain, leading up to YOUR CHOICE for the best player in UK history! Who will it be? Who did your fellow fans choose for who they thought was the best player in Big Blue’s storied tradition?

With so many great players in Kentucky’s history, it was inevitable that some big names were omitted from the list. While we wait for the final reveal on Friday, let’s take a quick look at a few of the players who didn’t make the list. Whether deserving or not, these are the players who came up just short on the list.

In no particular order…

Gerald Fitch
(2001-2004)

Fitch was one of Kentucky’s unsung heroes during the early 00’s, usually playing in the shadows of bigger names. But Fitch was a classic workhorse, and his blue-collar play helped make him one of Tubby Smith’s cornerstones.

Johnny Cox
(1957-1959)

A 6-foor-4 scorer from the hills of Eastern Kentucky surprisingly didn’t make the list, despite being the leading scorer on his senior team and 19[SUP]th[/SUP] on the all-time scoring list.

Vernon Hatton
(1956-1958)

The same goes for Vernon Hatton, who was the leading scorer on the 1958 National Championship team.

Larry Conley
(1964-1966)

Not only did Conley have a successful UK career (16[SUP]th[/SUP] all-time on the Assists list), he also went on to have a successful career as a broadcaster.

The Unforgettables
(1989-1992)

John Pelphrey, Deron Felhaus, Sean Woods an Richie Farmer were the centerpieces for one of Kentucky’s most memorable teams.

Twany Beckham
(2012-present)

Beckham got more votes (2) than points scored at Kentucky (0). Yeah.
