The title was an eye catcher, but I don’t believe it.
The 2-0 United States plays 1-1 Nigeria today at 5:15 eastern on the NBC Sports Channel.
Nigeria’s lone win is over lowly Tunisia and 60-56 sure doesn’t sound awesome, especially since the United States pounded them by 47.
Nigeria loss came to Lithuania in a 72-53 blowout on Tuesday.
The Nigerians leading scorer has been the New Orleans Hornets’ Al-Farouq Aminu with 15 vs. Tunisia and 12 in the loss vs. Lithuania.

Once Kevin Love suffered a slight knee injury against Tunisia, the NBA’s No. 1 draft pick suddenly found himself in an elevated role. In an otherwise meaningless game, he brought some more clarity on what his game might look like in the pros. By scoring 10 of his 12 points in 12 minutes on alley-oop lobs, it’s clear that Team USA has taken a clear liking to the Kentucky phenom. As Davis patiently set up in the post both to clear ways for entry passes and rebounds, Paul, Durant, James and Deron Williams all threw him various lobs that he threw down with ease.

Regardless of whether Chandler gets in foul trouble, Love’s knee flares up or both, Davis could have a significant role against Nigeria. Its only strength rests in its front line led by Diogu and Aminu, so it wouldn’t hurt to have Davis there anyway to combat Nigeria’s size. But it’d also be a good opportunity to give Davis a platform to work more on his game and throw down a few more dunks too.
