Kentucky Wildcats Weekend Sports Review

Weekly Recap:

The United States had a little struggle with the Lithuanian team with a close 99-94 win. This was one of those “keep you on the edge of your seat” type of games since they are ultimately reaching for the gold. Needless to say our own Anthony Davis didn’t see much playing time but does regularly when games aren’t so close. The minutes he has played thus far he’s done exceptionally well and you can tell that the entire team is enjoying his success. They had to really work for this one unlike the previous game when they crushed Nigeria in a record breaking 156-73 blowout. They pulled it off under pressure and this should make them a little more aware of the fact that no one is invincible at this level.

Football Fan Day appeared to be a great success with the players showing that they have potential and the guys seemed to really enjoy interacting with the fans. Watching the team practice and those “hungry for the win” looks they have gives fans renewed hope for the season ahead.

This past week was the John Calipari Pro Camp and it was great to see our former Cats out there having a great time with the kids and showing them that just because they were UK stars and now NBA players they still have awesome personalities and can teach the love of the game.

The Maysville Invitational was held yesterday with Darius Miller, Josh Harrellson and Chris Lofton among others participating. Josh Harrellson gave an interview stating that he could possibly be waived from the Houston Rockets and that several other teams have expressed interest in him. As always, the crowd loved Jorts and Darius, even in a packed and sweltering gym.

NOB writer Josh White did a fantastic poll article on the top 50 Kentucky basketball players of all time. It’s a very interesting read and if you review the article you will see a few surprises. These were results based solely on a poll of our site fans and the stories about each player and their contributions are great reminders of the history of our program.

Terrence Jones and Marquis Teague gave interesting interviews about their new roles as NBA players and also positive views on how they think this years UK team will look.

In other big news, which am sure was disappointing for the football team, Joker banned tweeting until August 15th to help keep the team focused on improving their game.

The award for the most hilarious story of the week goes to Tom Crean and his creepy tweets. You must read this if you are in need of amusement.

Coach Cal attended the Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala last night and had a few photo opportunities with some major stars. He flashed his championship ring next to Ed “Too Tall” Jones and his 1978 Super Bowl one (both were quite impressive) and got a photo with former president Bill Clinton admiring the ring. He also tweeted out pictures with Chevy Chase, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams and Glenn Frye of the Eagles. Doesn’t it make you wonder how many other college basketball coaches attended?

The podcasts are posted from this week and you’ll hear everything from Anthony Davis and his good times in London, football and basketball recruiting and debates over who gets a championship ring along with other random topics. You should give the Big Blue Breakdown a listen on www.nationofblue.com nightly from 8-10 and 1450 the Sports Buzz.
