Heading into the last week of the July live recruiting period, most thought John Calipari and his staff had their eyes on all the current 2013 targets. However, after some impressive games, a new name has stumbled onto the Kentucky radar.

Tyler Roberson, a 6-foot-8 combo forward out of Roselle Catholic (NJ), says he has started to have preliminary contact with the Kentucky staff.

Despite Kentucky’s late show into the picture, Roberson is very interested in the Cats. He lists UK in his current top ten, along with Alabama, Florida, Kansas, Rutgers, Seton Hall, SMU, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Villanova.

“Those ten schools are the schools I think I fit well with. I think I can be successful at those schools,” Roberson explained.

Recently, the rising senior has been compared to former Kentucky star Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. While he may not necessarily be as talented at Kidd-Gilchrist, Roberson can do many different things on the court with his versatility.

While he is interested in Kentucky right now, he may take some time to analyze his situation.

“Right now, I just want to see how serious Kentucky is,” he began. “But I’m very interested. It’s one of the best schools right now, and they develop players really well.”

According to Roberson, Kenny Payne has been contacting his NJ Roadrunner’s head coach, as well as Roberson himself. But if Kentucky is serious about the rising senior, they will have to move quickly.

“I want to get my list to five schools next month. Hopefully I can have a fall decision, but I could wait to the spring.”

Expect Roberson to make visits to Kansas and Syracuse in the future, as well as some other visits.
