By now, most Kentucky fans are aware of the arrest of former UK basketball player, Michael Porter, three months ago after being set-up in a police sting operation. But, in case you didn’t know, Michael Porter got arrested three months ago.
Porter was accused of having sexual relations with a minor girl stemming back as far as November 2000, when the girl was 14. To throw more morally questionable factors into the mix, he met the victim in church while serving as a group leader.
Porter was indicted this week on six counts of third-degree sodomy and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse. He had originally pleaded not-guilty in district court but is still set to be arraigned in circuit court on Aug. 24.
This will probably be the memory he will leave for himself in the minds of UK faithful. Well, personally, I’ll always remember a game I went to in Rupp during Porter’s last year. He was bringing the ball back up the court after a rebound and failed to realize there was still a defender behind him. Needless to say, the play ended in a collective chant from the stands, “Idiot!”
