Here is background on tonight’s huge SEC matchup:
The Bulldogs are led in scoring by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who averages 18.0 per game. Caldwell-Pope also leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game and 74 made 3-pointers on the year.
Georgia plays its only meeting of the season with Kentucky on Thursday night. For the first time in 50 seasons, these two programs are playing each another just once in a regular season, thanks to the SEC’s new scheduling arrangement.
Having won 14 of the last 18 match ups, Kentucky owns a 115-25 advantage in the Georgia series. The Wildcats’ .821 winning percentage against the Bulldogs is UK’s third-highest winning percentage against an SEC opponent that was in the league prior to the 1992 expansion.
Right now, Georgia has just one player (KCP at 18.0 ppg) averaging in double-digit scoring. Not only is it the sole SEC school with such a distinction, but that also makes it the only Bulldog team of the past 50 years with just a single double-figure scorer.
Five players are averaging double-figure scoring led by 13.2 per game from freshman Archie Goodwin.
Kentucky is 305-114 all-time in the month of March. The Wildcats have attained a 26-3 record during the month of madness under John Calipari’s direction.
