John Calipari surprised some people the other night when he visited top 2012 shooting guard Gary Harris.
From the sound of Harris father, Cal’s visit just wasn’t a coutesy call.
Gary Harris Sr. said Kentucky has been involved – at least in some regard – going back to January or February. He said Monday’s meeting was the first “really in-depth discussion” the family has had with Calipari.
“He wanted to come in and do it face-to-face and for us to hear what he had to say,” Harris Sr. said. “It was a good visit. I think their interest is sincere and serious. (A visit to Kentucky) was discussed, but nothing has been determined yet. This (in-home) visit was really set up on short notice, but it worked out well with both of our schedules. It wasn’t something that we’d planned for weeks.”
Harris Sr. left Tuesday out of town on business and said the family hasn’t had much time to talk since Monday’s visit. Those conversations will likely continue later this week.
“We feel pretty solid, at least from our standpoint, about the schools he plans to visit and the potential possibility of Kentucky,” Harris Sr. said.

It would be interesting to know Harris’ thoughts after Archie Goodwin committed last night. Most kids wouldn’t want to come into a log jam at the position they play, and with Goodwin being a shooting guard, one would think the chances of getting Harris are slim to none.
