The Sporting News looks at what they learned from last night’s Jordan Brand Classic.
One of their observations was Kentucky 2012 signee Nerlens Noel isn’t Anthony Davis.
* Nerlens Noel is a lot like Anthony Davis, but he’s no Anthony Davis.
In the opening minutes of the game, the 6-10 shot-blocker who committed to Kentucky on Wednesday looked like a controlling force in the paint.
He rejected three quick shots, and even made a nice offensive move to his left that resulted in a left-handed layup.

After that, though, he was just another talented big man in a sea of talented big men. He wasn’t often assertive on either end of the court, and kind of disappeared into the start-and-stop flow of the game.
Noel finished with four points, five rebounds and those three blocked shots. Davis, on the other hand, dominated the JBC game last April—he was his team’s MVP after putting up 29 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Obviously, Noel will be an excellent addition to the 2012-13 Kentucky Wildcats, but at this stage in his development, comparisons to Anthony Davis aren’t good for anybody.
