CBS Sports POY Rankings

Gary Parrish and Jeff Goodman released their first installment of the Player of the Year candidate rankings and, according to them, a couple of CATS are in the hunt.

They have Anthony Davis at #5 and Terrence Jones at #8 and here is what they said about each…

…on Davis
The consensus No. 1 freshman in the country has lived up to expectations. He’s long, skilled, athletic — and can do it on both ends of the court. Davis already showed he is ready for the big time with his last-second block of North Carolina’s John Henson to preserve Kentucky’s win over the Tar Heels. You’re almost certainly looking at the No. 1 pick in June’s NBA Draft due to his potential, but Davis is producing as well.

…on Jones
He’s certainly playing harder this season than he did last year as a freshman, but Jones remains inconsistent from game to game and even, at times, from play to play. But having said that, he’s more reliable this season, and while his overall numbers have dipped, his decision-making has improved.

They have Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger on top, and at this point in the season I think it is hard to argue with that.

At this point it looks like Josh Harrelson created a monster up in the Sweet 16 game in New Jersey. But there is alot of basketball left to be played yet, and while Sully has already nearly thrown his back out carrying his team, I feel like Jones and Davis have only begun to do their heavy lifting.
