[B]UK football seniors will join permanent captains Danny Trevathan and Stuart Hines[/B]
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Universityof Kentucky senior offensive tackle Billy Joe Murphy and senior cornerback Anthony Mosley have been named game captains for Kentucky’s season-opening contest against Western Kentucky University on Thursday.
Murphy and Mosley were picked by Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips because of their hard work and leadership during preseason practice. The two seniors will join senior linebacker Danny Trevathan and senior offensive lineman Stuart Hines, who are the permanent captains for the 2011 team, at the pregame coin toss.
Murphy, who tops the depth chart at right tackle, has been extremely valuable during his career at UK. Thenative of Gamaliel, Ky., has appeared in 33 games, making nine starts duringhis UK career. Last year, Murphy helped the UK offense finish fourth in theSoutheastern Conference in total offense and second in fewest quarterback sacks allowed.
Mosley, who made thegame-clinching interception in Kentucky’s victory over top-10 ranked South Carolina last season in Commonwealth Stadium, has become a leader for the Wildcat defense. A native of Ellenwood, Ga., he has played in 18 career games for the Wildcats, including 12 starts. Last season, the senior finished second on the team in pass breakups with five and seventh on the team with 34 tackles.
Kentucky and WKU are set tokickoff at 9:15 p.m. ET on ESPNU at LP Field, the home of the National Football League’s Tennessee Titans, in Nashville.
“Cat Walk” at LP Field at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. ET: Fans wishing to participate in the “Cat Walk,” cheering the Wildcats when they enter the stadium Thursday night, should be near the southeast corner of the stadium where Shelby Street and South Second Street meet (near parkinglots D and J) around 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
Join UK Alumni to Kickoff Wildcat Football Season in Nashville: Join alumni and friends for some pregame fun as the Kentucky Wildcats kick off the 2011 season against the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers at LP Field onSept. 1.
The pregame event begins at 5:00 p.m. ET (4:00 p.m. CT) at Limelight Nashville, located at 201 Woodland St., approximately 100 yards from LP Field. The UK pep band and cheerleaders will make an appearance.
Admission is $8 for UK Alumni Association members who preregister, $10 for nonmembers and event walk-ups, and free for children 12 and under with a paying adult. Specials will be available and free UK items and door prizes will be given away at the event.
