Source Tells Matt Norlander That Mark Mitchell Always Wanted to Stay at Missouri

Matt Norlander is reporting this afternoon that a source told him Mark Mitchell always wanted to stay at Missouri.

“Mark’s heart is always and forever Missouri,” one source reportedly told Norlander. “He’s never switched.”

Of course, that sounds a little sketchy since Mitchell committed to Kentucky a little over a week ago and fought an eligibility battle in court to play for the Wildcats.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

Mitchell, who exhausted his eligibility after playing this past season at Missouri, did not enter the transfer portal during the window described because he wasn’t eligible to play (at the time) since the five-in-five age-based eligibility model rule hadn’t been made official.

Mitchell played in summer league with the Denver Nuggets before exploring a path to return to school after going undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Said one source close to Mitchell: “Mark’s heart is always and forever Missouri. He’s never switched.” Mitchell committed to play for the Tigers and coach Dennis Gates in the spring of 2024 — immediately after Mizzou was coming off a horrendous 0-19 season against SEC competition.
