Former Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops is being mentioned as a potential candidate for defensive coordinator positions at both Oklahoma and Illinois.
The site Stormin’ In Norman lists Stoops as a potential pick to replace Jay Valai at Oklahoma.
Here is an excerpt:
Mark Stoops, Former Kentucky head coach
Mark Stoops, the brother of OU legend Bob Stoops, would instantly provide an insane amount of experience for a position coach. He’s back on the market since Kentucky fired him after 13 seasons as its head coach. He’s also been a defensive coordinator at Florida State, Arizona and Houston while coaching defensive backs along the way.
Surprisingly, Mark is a Stoops that hasn’t actually coached in Oklahoma yet, but family history and needing a job could get Mark to complete the Stoops trifecta for the Sooners.
Jeremy Weirner of 247Sports lists Stoops on his hot board of candidates for the defensive coordinator job at Illinois:
Mark Stoops, former Kentucky head coach. . Why it makes sense: Mark Stoops is on the market after a great run at Kentucky.
There’s no indication that Stoops is actually looking for a new job. After all, he is currently making more money than Will Stein to coach nothing.
