Kentucky freshman setter Kassie O’Brien was named Southeastern Conference Setter of the Week on Monday.
O’Brien averaged 11.60 assists per set and dished out 27 assists in Kentucky’s win over No. 5 Penn State in Happy Valley. She finished with 31 assists in a win over New Hampshire the next day.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky freshman setter Kassie O’Brien earned her first-career weekly honor from the Southeastern Conference on Monday, as she was named the SEC Setter of the Week.
O’Brien averaged 11.60 assists per set as she took over the Kentucky offense against No. 5 Penn State on the road and dished out 27 assists leading UK to a top-five road win in Happy Valley. O’Brien set the second and third sets against the Nittany Lions and also had two huge blocks early in the third set with three kills on her six setter dump opportunities.
In the Saturday match against UNH it was again O’Brien who controlled the Kentucky offense to the tune of a .581 hitting percentage as she had 31 assists and balanced out the offense to the point where nine different Kentucky players had at least two kills, including five different UK players with five or more kills. She set her career highs in every major statistical categories this weekend in Happy Valley.
Kentucky, who ascended to No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association Top-25 poll on Monday, plays No. 7 Pittsburgh on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN in the Inaugural ACC/SEC Showdown at the Net Presented by Shriners Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas.
