Former University of Kentucky great Sean Woods has been named head coach of the La Familia alumni team for The Basketball Tournament later this summer.
Woods, one of UK’s famed Unforgettables, was recently named the new head coach at Scott County High School. He previously coached college basketball at Mississippi Valley State, Morehead State and Southern.
In the 1992 NCAA Tournament game against Duke, widely accepted as one of the greatest games in college basketball history, Woods scored 21 points. He made the “shot before the shot” with a running 10-footer over Christian Laettner that gave the Wildcats a late 103-102 lead. Unfortunately, Laettner hit a game-winner on the next play to win the game.
