Former Duke player Nolan Smith, who is now an assistant coach on Kenny Payne’s staff at Louisville, has an interesting take about coaches attending the NBA Draft.
Smith Tweeted, “I will never go to the draft as a coach unless my player personally invites me and says ‘Coach.. I want you there!’ Draft night is about the player and his family!!! Its not a photo op for me to post on IG to help with recruiting.”

Luckily, Louisville rarely has NBA Lottery picks, but that’s still an interesting take for a former Duke player.
UPDATE: Coach Cal just clapped back:
I’ve said it before, the draft is like graduation day for me and the minute my guy gets drafted, I’m out of the building! So happy for Cason and his family!!
Now I’m off to have an anniversary glass of wine with my wife while we watch Oscar, Chris and Jacob, who weren’t at…
