Two schools reportedly offered quarterback Drake Maye $5 million to leave North Carolina

Two schools allegedly offered North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye $5 million to leave the Tar Heels and come to their programs.

UNC head coach Mack Brown was first to state publicly that two big schools offered money to Maye, who is NOT in the transfer portal.

According to Tar Heels’ head coach Mack Brown, several big-name collegiate programs took notice, as well.

Brown, per a post from 247Sports this afternoon, alleges that well-known schools attempted to lure Maye away from North Carolina using NIL.

“I can’t say [who they are] and don’t ask Drake. You know who they are. Just look at all the ones who are getting all the top recruits,” Brown said.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi seemed to verify Brown’s allegations on Tuesday, calling it a “sad, sad deal.”

Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson also weighed in on the topic, saying people are “tampering and buying people off your team.”

“What I hate the most is people tampering and buying people off your team,” Brown said on his radio show Nov. 28.

Now, Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson is echoing Brown’s concerns, just three days out from his team’s final game of the season — the Gasparilla Bowl against Missouri.

“What’s going on behind the scenes right now in college football, nobody’s stopping it,” Clawson said Tuesday. “There’s no punishment for doing that. So it’s just going to continue and continue. And if this is the way it’s going to be, that’s fine, but let’s not pretend there’s rules. Just eliminate the rules and say this is all legal. If you’re trying to follow the rules, you’re at a significant disadvantage.”
